Short review: Edicy, the Baltic website builder

EdicyEdicy has been used to create over 200,000 websites worldwide, according to the counter on its slick-looking homepage. After registering with the Estonian provider and supplying your email address, you'll find yourself quickly directed to their website editor.

A limited range of features makes Edicy very straight-forward to use, with some definite strong points on the functionality side of things. It has a smart image gallery and blog, and you can easily optimize your website for search-engine ranking by entering Meta Tags for each individual page. Another good point is that advanced users can edit the template code for individual pages and sub-pages, a feature you won't see in many other website builders.

Another bonus is the option to display your website in a range of different languages. However it does seem slightly strange that a provider with such a wide range of languages should have such a poorly translated German site. Edicy is available in 14 languages (!) other than English and German, but we were unable to test the rest of these.
All in all, this system is still in its infancy and doesn't yet measure up to other competitors. Edicy doesn't offer any e-Commerce functions or dedicated email management, for example.

Something else we found tricky to get our heads around: a one-year Edicy PRO contract will set you back a lot more than comparable products. As there is currently no way to try the PRO plan for free we didn't test it. If you want a proper domain name such as www.yourname.com, you have no other choice but to go for the pricey PRO upgrade. This makes it a decidedly expensive option compared to the competition.
