Connecting Namecheap domain to Wix

Wix allows you to connect or transfer your elsewhere purchased domain name to a Wix premium site. When transferring it to Wix, they will host your domain name and Wix will become your domain registrar.

If you’d prefer to keep your domain name at Namecheap, you can always point it (connect) to your Wix.com site. Both ways offer essentially the same result: your Wix.com website will show up when visiting the connected or transferred domain name.

How can a Namecheap domain name be transferred to Wix.com?

If you would like Wix to host your domain name, you can transfer it to Wix. Unfortunately, Wix does not allow transfers for all domain name extensions. Most country-specific domain names (e.g. .co.uk,  .de, .fr.) cannot be transferred to Wix. However, transferring the most popular domain names, such as .com, .org, .net, .info, is not a problem.

Wix has a great guide that outlines this process: “Transferring a Domain Purchased Elsewhere to Wix“.
It also includes a self-service tool that allows you to initiate the transfer.

How can a Namecheap domain name be connected (pointed) to Wix?

There are several occasions when it makes sense to keep Namecheap as your domain name registrar (e.g., you have your email accounts with Namecheap). A solution would be to point your Namecheap domain name to your Wix site. To perform this connection, a couple of parameters need to be changed at Namecheap.

Here is an example for our Tooltester.net Wix website. We pointed the A-Record and CNAME to Wix’s servers. If you have no clue what any of that means, don’t let it scare you. Namecheap offers live chat support with extremely skillful agents who can easily set that up for you:

That’s the setup for our Wix website in Namecheap – your Values are probably different, though!

If you are not using email inboxes via Namecheap, I would recommend changing the Nameservers to Wix route, though.

Read all the necessary steps at Wix support & help pages and search for “Connecting Domains Purchased Elsewhere.”

Please noteThe Wix eCommerce, Unlimited and Combo plans include a domain name for free the first year. Be aware that they will charge you for it after the first year. More information about Wix’s prices.

Additional Information

You would be able to both transfer and connect your Namecheap domain name to any premium Wix account. Unfortunately, these options aren’t available for the free Wix plans.

You will have a free domain name the first year when purchasing a Combo, an Unlimited or an eCommerce Wix plan. Bear in mind that, after the first year, basic domain names cost about $15. The domain name prices are different depending on its extension (for example: .com domain names are cheaper than .tv domains).

Alternatively, you could register your domain name at Namecheap. A .com domain name would cost you about $10 yearly. With Namecheap you are able to register a lot more domain name extensions.

You simply need to purchase a domain name from Namecheap in order to connect it to your Wix premium site.

Yes, Wix offers email accounts through Google Workspace. This is a good solution but is not budget-friendly each—user account costs about $6 per month.

Namecheap offers a much better deal for email services. Their email plans start at around $9-10 yearly.

Another interesting alternative is Zoho Workplace. There you get up to 5 email accounts completely for free!
